Participants take off work for this three and a half day intensive which consists of

  • an evening of prayer and worship,

  • training on major world religions,

  • training on engaging friends from those religions

  • (hopefully) visiting places of worship like a mosque and a Hindu temple

  • going into the community and sharing our faith

  • sharing stories of the Lord's work during out time out

First Evening // 6:30pm - 9:30pm 

Other Days  // 8:45am - 6:00pm…evenings optional

$100 Registration, plus two meals a day day in local restaurants. Out of town guests responsible for accommodations. (Registration fee can be waived or reduced if necessary).

The trainers for this course serve with Global Gates, a missions organization committed to raising the missions climate in our cities and seeing disciple-making movements amongst people from least-reached nations in the U.S. They have been involved in cross-cultural gospel ministry for years.

ETHNOGRAPHICS 101

For those interested in cultural research.


  • 5 hours total (2.5 training, 2.5 in the community), training on basic ethnographics · In-class instruction, role playing and mnemonics 

Objectives: 

  • to introduce participants to engaging with UPGs
· to gather local UPG data, shared by your church and Global Gates


  • to find those interested in long term ethnography, Ethnographics Practicum, below

ETHNOGRAPHICS PRACTICUM

Long term cultural research of the area.


  • more in depth and longer term than Ethnographics 101, year long practicum
· compiling information on local UPGs (values, where they live, gather, work, etc.)

  • initial training: Saturday, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, six meetings during the year 

 

Objectives: 

  • to gather local UPG data, shared by your church and Global Gates
· to burden participants for UPGs, potentially for further UPG mission participation

UNREACHED WITHIN REACH "TRIP"

For this stay-at-home mission "trip", participants take off work for this three and a half day intensive consisting of 

  • an evening of prayer and worship,
· training on major world religions,
· training on engaging people from those religions 

  • visiting places of worship like mosques and Hindu temples


  • going into the community and sharing our faith


  • debriefing by sharing stories of the Lord's work during time in the community 

Objectives: 

  • introduce participants to major world religions in the area


  • train participants how to engage people of these religions

  • envision participants for continued UPG ministry


  • provide a launching pad for continued UPG ministry by starting and incubating a new group who continues reaching UPGs (see UpGo Team, below) 

Materials for Participants: 

  • We produce and provide a notebook that contains the lecture notes, resource lists and directory of publicly accessible local establishments owned or populated by UPGs.

UpGo TEAMS

Unreached People Group Outreach Team

  • team adopts an unreached people (or affinity) group with the purpose of seeing the 

  • gospel spread through said group


  • weekly or biweekly team meetings, flexible depending on schedules
· meetings consist of prayer and strategy; ministry takes place between meetings

  • team initiatives shaped by UPG’s needs and team members’ gifts 

Objectives: 

  • to create an ongoing, culturally sensitive outreach effort amongst believers

  • to see disciples made among local UPGs 

Note: the following options (VII and VIII) are usually a couple of the initiatives that grow out of the UpGo Teams, but could also be done without being a part of the team.

LITERATURE DISTRIBUTION

This initiative typically grows out of the UpGo Teams, but could also be done without being a part of a team.

  • Take literature to staff at publicly accessible local establishments owned by UPGs

  • Hand out literature to commuters at metro, UPG-specific events 

 

Objectives: 

  • to distribute Christian literature. Potential for making friends, gospel conversations

  • to burden participants for UPGs potentially for further UPG mission participation 

Materials Provided for Participants: 

  • tracts, digitally accessible list of drop-off locales

Suggested prerequisite: 

  • Unreached Within Reach, other cross cultural evangelistic training

OUT & ABOUT SHARING

This initiative typically grows out of the UpGo Teams, but could also be done without being a part of a team. It is for the evangelistically gifted and/or those wanting to grow in this area.

  • visiting locally accessible establishments and engaging in gospel conversations

  • adaptable to styles and gifts, can be relational or otherwise 

 

Objectives: 

  • spreading the gospel to local unreached people groups
· provide a means of keeping gospel proclamation on the radar

Community seminars geared at providing valuable information are a good means of connecting. We are looking for people with expertise in the following disciplines:

  • Medicine (to present at seminar)

  • Administration (to organize seminars, interfacing with community leaders)

  • To match the gifting and abilities of the church with the needs of the communities we are trying to reach

ADOPT-A-SHOP

There are scores of international markets owned, operated and frequented by unreached peoples. We need people to adopt one, shop there, get to know the butcher or owner and reach out.
